Ways to Use Essential Oils - To fragrance your kitchen add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a pan of simmering water on the stove or in the microwave.
- Freshen your linen closet, drawers and cupboards by putting a few drops of essential oils on a terra cotta disk. Add more oil as the scent wears off. Hang an essential oil terra cotta disk in your closet and on your coat hooks or tree. You can use cotton balls or terry cloth strips placed inside an open plastic bag as an alternative to the terra cotta disk.
- Refresh your home and improve your vacuuming experience by adding a few drops of essential oil to a cotton ball placed in your vacuum bag.
- Deodorize carpets with essential oil added to borax or baking soda, mix well, leave in a sealed container for 24 hours. Sprinkle the mixture on your carpets, let sit for 20 minutes and then vacuum off.
- Add refreshing, disinfecting essential oils to your bucket of water when cleaning kitchen surfaces and floors.
- Tuck a few cotton balls with essential oils added under cushions and in heating ducts to freshen your home.
- Freshen shoes by adding antibacterial and deodorizing essential oils to baking soda. Sprinkle in shoes nightly.
- Disinfect rooms with appropriate essential oils added to water in aroma lamp dish.
- Give yourself a boost of energy at the office or while driving by adding invigorating essential oils to a terra cotta diffuser. Place one on your desk and hang one in the car.
- For help falling asleep add a few drops of relaxing essential oils to a cotton ball and place inside your pillow case.
- Renew an aging potpourri with a few drops of essential oil.
- Enhance your cozy fire by adding fragrant essential oils to the wood. Place on the wood before starting the fire and allow time to penetrate.
- When cleaning the refrigerator or freezer add disinfecting and deodorizing essential oils to your wash water.
- Scent your suitcases, purses and brief cases with essential oil terra cotta disks or cotton balls. Add a few drops of essential oils to disks or cotton balls, place inside a small open plastic bag, put inside these items. Tuck in coat pockets over the winter.
- Set a mood, encourage sleep or re-engerize your environment with a few drops of essential oil added to water in a spray bottle. Shake well and spray the mixture into the air. Deodorize and freshen mattresses with this same method.
- Place a terra cotta disk or cloth sprinkled with essential oils on top of your dryer. As the dryer becomes warm, your laundry room will be fragranced.
- Add a few drops of essential oil to your running bath water, calming oils at night and energizing oils in the morning.
- Relieve aches and pains by adding specialty essential oils to Jojoba or Sweet Almond oil and massage.
- Create a facial astringent by adding essential oils to Witch Hazel and apply with a cotton ball.
- Fragrance and deodorize the bathroom by adding essential oils to dried flowers, toilet paper rollers or terra cotta disks.
- Hot and cold compresses can be made by adding essential oils to hot or cold water, soaking a cloth in the water and wrapped or placed on affected areas. Good for injuries, muscle and joint pain, cramps, headache, and toothache.
- To add fragrance to candles put a few drops of essential oils on melted wax being careful to avoid the wick or flame.
- Add essential oil to the dish inside your humidfier.
- For extra fresh laundry add essential oil to your final rinse or fabric softener.
- Scent bookmarks and stationery by putting essential oils on a piece of cloth or absorbent paper, let dry and place in proximity to items to be fragranced.
- Steam inhalation can be achieved by placing appropriate essential oils in a bowl of hot water, place a towel over your head and allow the vapors to penetrate your bronchial passages. This same method is also useful as a facial sauna to treat various skin conditions.
- Deodorize garbage can by putting a few drops of essential oil on a piece of paper and toss it in the can.
